Comments: Here is perhaps a clearer example of the "modern 'classical' period that was pioneered by Pablo Picasso, among others, in the decade of the 20s and 30s," which was mentioned earlier (<= Page #16). Like many other Mexican artists, he studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, being taught by Rufino Tamayo another others. He is remember for paintings, engravings, a a few murals. His works were exhibited in Buenos Aires, Paris, and Mexico City.
Humanities Question: What aspects of this painting demonstrate how Castellanos used nude figures to equate the (apparently Mexican) figures to the level of (Greek and Roman) "classical" artistic beauty while, at the same time, they represent what could be seen as a kind of "Mexicanness"?
