Notes: Here we focus on the very sober area on the façade surrounding the window that is called the rose window in Gothic churches. Here, however, we see the cathedral's elegant crest above a bare area within a Renaissance arch. The window is small, and there is minimum decoration. The next page (=> Mérida #6) will show in more detail why there are so few openings on this exterior walls of this cathedral compared to other European-style cathedrals with elaborate stained glass windows.
Latin American humanities: colonial Renaissance architecture; anti-horror vacui style; Spanish Renaissance monumentality.
