Humanities Comments: This photograph was taken from the principal observation room or temple atop the Central Acropolis, presumably the place from which the lords of Tikal watched their sacred ball game. Remember that the game's winners were honored by being sacrificed, which sacrifice assured (to the Maya mind) the prosperity, success, and continuity of their civilization and the glory of their humanities (if not their humanity?).
