Tikal (7)

Comments: Tikal's prime attraction is the so-called Gran Plaza (Great Square). The east entrance to this plaza is from behind Temple I, whose back side we see here. This is certainly not the most iconic or photogenic view in Tikal (you can see that in Tikal #9), nor is this pyramid the oldest, but this view does give us an interesting view of the architectural fact that pyramids here have a clear front and back. The temple at the top of this and other temples is accessible from a grand staircase only on the front side.
