Guatemala City (14)

Source: WTL© digital photograph (2008) taken on site in Guatemala City.
Comments: The sign in this photo says: "The declaration of independence was signed here on September 15, 1821." Here you see the SE corner of Parque del Centenario (Centenial Park), which is immediately west of the big Parque Central. Originally, on this site stood the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales (see its cognate building in: => Antigua #10), but it was destroyed first by earthquake and then its replacement by fire. Now there's a park here.
Humanities question based on this photograph: How do the composite elements in this image amplify or shape your interpretation of the contents of the written sign and the historical background of this place?
