Image: The Spanish maintained and manned the fort well from 1740 to 1763. The British took over Florida from 1763 to 1784. During the Second Spanish Period, 1783 to 1821, the Spanish did not maintain the fort. In 1821, Americans took over the fort but never occupied it.
