De Bry Illustrations: Florida (9)

Source: Michel Duchet, L'Amérique de Théodore De Bry. Paris: Editions du Centre national de la recherche scientifique, 1987, p. 160 (Plate 23)
Latin / French title: Transporting game, fish, and other provisions
Image: Timucua women carrying baskets of various provisions
Metaphors: European-style Renaissance cornucopia.
Comments: Here we see pre-contact Timucuans in Florida at the time of their first encounter with the French. The etching, of course, is made by a European artist (i.e., a French artist, Jacques LeMoyne) whose original drawing/painting has been transformed into an etching by Théodore DeBry. Generally speaking, these works are referred to as being by DeBry.
Humanities topics and questions: (A) What is a "cornucopia"? (B) What is "Renaissance" about a "cornucopia"? (C) What does the above etching say about the Timucua, and (D) what does it also say about the French perspective at the time of this encounter between these two different peoples?
