Comment: This monument stands 358 feet high; it represents a five-pointed star; the construction material is Cuban gray marble mined on the Cuban Island of Youth (Isla de la Juventud). At the bottom is an auditorium (Sala de Actos) for concerts, conferences, and poetry readings. There is an elevator that takes visitors to the top. There are also four galeries displaying mementos of José Martí and other items.
Humanities topic: Compare this monument to parallel ones in Buenos Aires, Washington, D.C., Paris, and other cities. In lieu of a monument like this one, what is similar in Beijing, Lima, Moscow, Mexico City, London, Madrid, Guatemala City?
