Comments: When the professor-photographer stood on this beach, his first reaction, of course, was to enjoy the sun, sand, and very gentle surf (on this particular day, no hurricane). But his second reaction was to be thrilled to stand near this Cuban location where Cortés recruited the last of his soldiers and sailors and from whence he launced his expedition into the unknown lands of the Aztecs.
Humanities topic: Comment briefly on the (humanities) insertion of history into what otherwise is a mere 20th-century tourist photo. This idea may beg the following question: Is any tourist photo "merely a tourist photo"?
