Comment: This building is the famous river-side Custom House (a Alfândega). It was built by British engineers, and the construction material is Scottish bricks. The building's style is called "imperial style". Because of the river's possible rise and fall of up to 40 feet (14 meters), the dock was constructed in a number of foreign-made sections. The Alfândega is evidence of the the wealth from the rubber industry centered around Manaus in the 19th and 20th centuries.
