Painting: Eugênio Proença Sigaud (1899-1979), "Acidente de trabalho" (Labor Accident; 1944).
Comment: Sigaud studied in the national fine arts academy; he exhibited his first works in public in 1923, and in 1935 he began working in muralism. Beginning in 1937, he concentrated on works that included strong social commentary, and example of which you see above. Sigaud's works are characterized by technical versatility in oil, watercolor, tempera, and gouache.
