Comment: This is a view of the confluence of the Rio Solimões (where the boat is from which this photo is being shot) and the Rio Negro (the dark, almost black water in the background). We are going to go up-river by entering the Rio Negro. Remember that, in Brazilian toponymy, the Amazon (i.e., Rio Amazonas) per se is only the name of the river at its lower stretch where it enters the Atlantic Ocean.
