Comments: Here you see the stairway with eight of the twelve statues of Old Testament prophets at the Basílica do Bom Jesus do Matozinho (1772) in Congonhas do Campo, Brazil. This building is considered Aleijadinho's masterpiece because of its Neoclassical design, its balance, harmony, simplicity, economy of elements, and beauty, and, of course, because of the spectacular creation of these twelve biblical prophets (1800-1805) as a veritable "symphony in stone" in Brazilian soapstone. The twelve prophets include: Isaiah, Baruch, Jonah, Joel, Hosea, and Daniel.
