Notes: Cuicuilco is an archeological site centered around an ancient pyramid whose oldest parts date to pre-Teotihuacan times. It represents the oldest known urban civilization of the Valle de Anáhuac (also known as the Valley of Mexico). This valley in central Mexico is on a high plateau and is surrounded by volcanic mountains. Mexico City--formerly, Tenochtitlan--is in the center of this valley. Cuicuilco was founded about 600 BCE.
