El Sagrario Chapel, México City

Comments: Lorenzo Rodríguez (1704-1774) designed this chapel (1749-1769). It stands alongside the Catedral Metropolitana on the Zócalo in the center of Mexico City. The architectural style is baroque: filigree, elaborate carvings dazzle the viewer. This style is known as Churrigueresque (churrigueresco), from the Spanish architect José Benito Churriguera ( 1665-1725). It represents the final development of Baroque architectural style in both Spain and Latin America.
