Comments: Romañach (Cuba, 1862-1951) was a Cuban art instructor who studied art in Spain and Italy. Even though he painted during the height of modernismo, his style, nevertheless, is usually characterized as romantic realism, a style you can see in this painting. Modernism (strictly speaking) does not begin in Cuba until the 1920s.
